Here
it is, folks...a High Performance High Flow Exhaust system for
your Wrangler, Cherokee or Grand Cherokee. The exhaust
guru "Master Nick" at Kolak Performance has put together the
best flowing componentry to create GOBS MORE midrange and upper
end torque from your Wrangler, Cherokee and Grand Cherokee,
possibly saving you a full second in a 1/4 mile, and lots more
passing speed on the highway (and particularly useful when
passing on 2 lane highways, as you can imagine). When you are
done with the Y pipe install on the cat and back system, it
should look like the photo on the right.

We go with a 3"
exhaust from the Y pipe back, and using the highest flowing
Hi-Flow Car Sound Brand converter they make (greater than 50%
additional flow over stock cat), a Hi-Flow Flowmaster brand
muffler tuned to your tastes (25% greater flow than stock
muffler), and a mandrel-bent tailpipe that carries your stinkies
from the muffler over the rear axle without kinking like the
factory pipe (and many aftermarket "cat-back" manufacturers) do.
We've found that the 5.2L and 5.9L V8s flow and sound best with
3.0" and the Flowmaster 50 series muffler, the 4.7L V8s flow and
sound best with 3.0" and the Flowmaster 70 series muffler
(unless you have an '04+ with pre-cats only, which a Magnaflow
wide-body is substituted for more noise cancellation due to the
main cat not being there), and though 6 cyl. models have been
tested with 3.0" and we found that they have better performance
with 2.5" and Flowmaster 70 series mufflers. (If you get a
muffler that is too loud, it will resonate and sound "cheap",
which is why we spec these specific mufflers for each engine.
Trust us on this. :-) Just to illustrate the unbelievable
amount of engineering that went into the factory system, here
are a couple of photos of one of the factory downpipes:
This package is
available now for all '93-'98 Grand Cherokees, as well as the
4.0L I-6 Cherokees and Wranglers. (if you have a 4 cylinder,
ain't nuttin' I can do to help 'ya!) Install time for headers
varies (probably 4-6 hours), but the rest of the stuff is easy
for an exhaust guy to do (there is some piping that needs to be
custom bent by an exhaust shop...that and the install itself
should run you about $150). It's a very noticeable gain in
mid and full throttle acceleration times, particularly when
passing on narrow 2 lane highways.
The Liberty KJ
also now has a kit now. Because there is no header
manufacturer so far that I'm aware of, and because the rear
tailpipe is already 2.5" stainless steel, there is now a kit
offered with a better flowing Magnaflow muffler and the same
Hi-Flow Catalytic Converter as the Grands and Cherokees get.
You should see a performance increase of around 15hp and a more
powerful passing gear due to the exhaust system actually letting
the stinkies out of the engine rather than backing it up with
the stock restrictive cat and muffler. I really think
you'll be happy not only with the performance increases, but
with the more "manly" sound that you're Libby will now make,
rather than the effeminate sound it makes now, lol.

NOTE: If you have
more than 50k on your Jeep, I highly recommend buying a Mopar O2
sensor below so that you have
everything ready to install when the system arrives. We
have found that the Bosch and other aftermarket O2 sensor that
places like AutoZone, Checker, PepBoys, etc sell wreak havoc on
the '96+ models. |
SPECIAL NOTE:
Every now and again one of our customers has difficulty getting
their local exhaust shops to install one or more pieces of the
componentery included in the Kolak System. Bearing in mind
that we've tested just about EVERY permutation of exhaust
systems for these Jeeps and KNOW WITHOUT A DOUBT what works best
on these rigs, (and furthermore have had a 99.9% "approval
rating" on these systems), every now and again some
self-proclaimed exhaust expert will tell you that you don't need
one of the parts or you need to purchase something else that we
didn't send you. Typically, it's all about selling you
some stuff that you didn't originally buy from them to bump up
their profits, but every now and again they are just plain
poorly informed and haven't done the tests we've done. If
they give you a hard time and try to talk you out of the system,
just leave and make an appointment at a PERFORMANCE-minded
exhaust shop. In fact, when you are making your
appointment, call up your local speed shop and ask them who THEY
recommend for getting exhaust systems installed. It will
likely
save you some hassle later on.
YET ANOTHER NOTE:
Your exhaust installer may need to cut and fit the tube in order
to fit it on your particular rig. There is also some
additional pipe that should be kept on hand for fitment.

*NOT* ATTEMPT TO INSTALL THIS SYSTEM YOURSELF UNLESS YOU ARE AN
EXCELLENT WELDER, HAVE A SEGMENT EXPANDER, AND HAVE DONE *LOTS*
OF EXHAUST WORK IN THE PAST!!!!!!

NOTE: For some
inexplicable reason, somewhere in the middle of the '04
model run, V8 model WJs no longer were built with a
"classic" catalytic converter under the passenger floorboard
(they use pre-cats only), so the later
'04 model kit includes the 3.0" tailpipe and a Magnaflow muffler and resonator
rather than the Flowmaster and cat that would normally be
there. Customers are extremely pleased with the sound
of this system. Please make sure to check
under your '04 WJ before ordering to see if you do or do not
have a "classic" catalytic converter under the passenger
floorboard. |
